Astrology Myths Storybook

  1. Hi Jennifer!
I read the introduction to your story post. I find your topic to be interesting because it combines both of my favorite things: Astrology and Greek mythology. Your set up of the project website looks neat. I like that you organized the zodiac signs in order and the pictures you choose are eye-capturing. What's your story plan? Will you do a microfiction like Laura? I figure incorporating an origin story for each sign would be hard. I still think your idea is neat and the way you set it up is beautiful and eye-catching. All the names under each zodiac signs sound interesting. I know some of them at first glance, but for others I have no clue. Parthenos, Themis, Orion, and others. I assume you would explain them in your story. What if you give each story a brief description? Something like Themis - personification of justice. I can't wait to read your story.

    1. Hi Tony!
Thank you for your comment! You have great suggestions, and I'm absolutely going to use them! I've been working on my storybook for Indian Epics, so I haven't gone back to this project yet. I intend to revise the introduction with a more in depth plan so everyone understands what's going on in my storybook.

As for the plan itself, my intention originally was to tell each myth behind the zodiac constellations and signs, but like you said it may be too hard. I might do the micro-fictions just to be able to keep each sign in the project.

  2. Hi Jennifer, I read the introduction to your Zodiac Myths storybook and I thought that it was really interesting. I enjoyed how you included the background information of the origins of the astrology and how it relates to the Zodiacs. I also think that the links to different websites are super helpful as it allows the reader to learn more information than what is in the introduction. The Solar System Scope added at the end is also super interesting and I enjoyed playing around with it. One thing that I wondered about after reading your introduction is how you will be structuring your storybook. I see that you will be giving the origins of each constellation, but I was wondering how you were going to split the stories up. Will you be doing something like one page for each constellation or will you split it up into like the fire signs on one page and then water signs on another? Either way, I enjoyed reading your introduction and look forward to reading your future stories.

    1. Hi Chris! I'm still figuring out the layout, but I think I've narrowed it down a bit. I either might sort them based on their element (fire, earth, air water), or I might just leave them all individual stories. Since there are so many, I'm not sure how that would work so I might have to talk to Laura. I'm glad you enjoyed what little I have so far!

  3. Hi Jennifer!
So, I may have immediately filled out the birth chart! The illustrations you chose for your Storybook are stunning, and definitely set the tone for your Storybook. I like that you gave a (brief) history of astrology and then went on to describe what you were going to talk about in your Storybook. How are you going to divide the signs up? You could do masculine and feminine signs, or you could divide the signs by their elements—air, water, earth, and fire. Did you focus mostly on Greek Mythology on purpose, or was that just what came up when you were researching the constellations you chose? All the different links you included in your story, plus the Solar System Scope, reveal how much thought, effort, and time you included in researching for your Storybook. Great job overall, and I cannot wait to read the rest of your Storybook!

    1. Hi Cady! I'm glad you liked my illustrations! I made them in Canva, and there's little templates they have for zodiac signs. The birth chart is also fun to play around with, and learn. I've done it for my entire family lol. As for the sign organizations, I may sort them by elements. I'm not exactly sure yet — I've just been focusing on the stories and trying to figure that out. Thank you for your comment!

  4. Hey Jennifer!
I read your introduction and I am really excited to read what you come up with! I do not know the time I was born (it wasn't recorded), so sadly I will never fully know my birth chart. But I'm a Pisces so I am looking forward to that section of your storybook. I really like the layout of your project with everything being organized by its astrological sign. I think it would be cool if you organized the signs a little more, like with their correlating element. I think that would make some signs feel more similar to some than others. Even so, I am looking forward to reading your stories again!

    1. Hi Christian! I'm actiually working on Pisces right now, so hopefully I'll have more stuff on the project soon! I think I may organize them by elements because it seems easier to do it that way. I'm not sure yet, but that seems the right direction. Thank you for your comment!

  5. Hi Jennifer! I love your intro! I think this is gonna be a really cool storybook project! It caught my eye on the list because I'm using astrology in mine too. I like how you added links to different website in your intro too. I've looked into my birth chart before and its very interesting. For the stories, I like that you are centering on the Greek origins. Those are my favorites. I also liked how you set up the intro, listing the zodiac by order of the patter of the elements. I'm curious about your stories, and can't wait to read them! Are you going to keep to the origins pretty closely or mix it up at all? Are the going to be longer or shorter? Anyways, great job! :)

    1. Hi Lauren! I think I'm going to keep the stories close to the original, just because I want it to have a sort of history behind the sings type thing. I also like the Greek stories best, so that's why I chose to center the stories around them. Thank you!

  6. Hey Jennifer,
I really like your introduction! Personally, I am not very invested in horoscopes or astrological signs, so I was quite oblivious to their long history or complex beginnings. Out of curiosity, I had followed a few of your links to different sites and was very surprised by what I found in some! I used the Birth Chart and found out my sign (a libra) along with tons of other information which was completely overwhelming! I plan on unpacking it later and I love the addition of it to your storybook. The images you chose are absolutely stunning and set the tone perfectly for your stories! I love the layout of your website, it is very intuitive and well-organized. I am excited to see what your stories will be for the signs! Will they be focused solely in Greek myth, to will any of them draw form some of the other sources you mentioned in your introduction? Overall, I am really excited to see where this storybook goes!

    1. Hi Reid! I'm also not super into horoscopes, and I don't really believe in astrology. I do think it's fun to learn about though! It definitely can take you down a rabbit hole of information. Most of the stories origins I could find focused on Greek mythology, but there were some from Mesopotamia and Babylon, so I think I'm going to include those too just to add a little diversity.

  7. Hi Jennifer!

I'm feeling very inspired to read about astrology right now (mostly because it's my birthday months AND I'm also doing a storybook that ties into astrology). First off, I really love the pictures you used. It makes your website look very clean and alluring! While I was reading the introduction, I really liked how in depth it got with the facts, which is so great since the title is about myths! I find this to be a very informational and interesting story book and love that you give the option for each zodiac to explain their own stories. I do wonder about the layout of each?? How their stories might possibly be set up? I would love to know because I barely know anything about zodiacs and would love and interesting way to learn about them!! I can definitely see your creativity shine through your intro and I can't wait to read about their connections to fire, air, earth, and water.

    1. Hi Ashley! Thank you, I'm so happy you like the site! I'm not sure yet how I'm going to set this up, I'm thinking sorting by elements just to keep it simple. I do intend to include all of the signs, so I'm playing around with the page layouts to see how to fit three stories on each page.

  8. Hi Jennifer! I just got done reading your storybook introduction.

I must first say that this is a really cool topic to do your project over! Just reading the title made me jealous I didn't do something similar, I love astrology so will definitely be bookmarking your project and come back and read it later!

While I'm very much aware of astrology and know a little about it, a lot of what I read in your introduction was new information to me and I found it very helpful. This informal approach to the introduction was a good choice!

I like how after explaining how astrology goes beyond the sun sign, you provide a link for the reader to create a birth chart. I makes it very fun and interactive! And while I know my birth chart, I did in fact click on the link and recreate it, LOL!

Also, I really love the images you included for each astrological sign, very nice touch! I'm excited to read your stories!

    1. Hi Bailey! I'm very happy you like my site! I thought adding sources throughout the introduction would help readers understand concepts if I didn't explain it well. I'm glad so many have said they though that was a good idea — it got to the point where I thought it was too much lol. I plan to work on this some time tomorrow, so hopefully I can get the ball running and have some stories out soon! Thank you!

  9. Howdy Jennifer!
Your storybook site is absolutely stunning! I can't imagine the amount of time and care and thoughtfulness you put into every detail - it's so wonderfully interactive, and I love how this interactive aspect means that the reader's experience can become so personalized. Really brilliant work. I wish I had more notes and suggestions for improvement, but I've just had such fun exploring the site and all that it has to offer, all the little doors to open!
Your first story was really craftfully retold as well, a true joy to read - the pace I think is perfect. Again, wish I had more helpful feedback, but I will certainly keep returning to your storybook!

  10. Hi Jennifer! You did such a great job making your site look appealing to the reader. I loved all the images you used and thought using Canva to make some of them was a great idea. In fact, I might end up doing that for my storybook as well. The embedded Solar System Scope in your intro was also a really fun detail! I read your introduction and the Gemini story (since it's my sign), and was really impressed by how much detail you were able to include in your writing. I also really enjoyed all the extra information you have at the top of your story pages about the specific sign. For the Gemini story, I would make sure to be consistent with the capitalization of "King" and "Queen." I would also recommend adding subpages to make navigating to specific signs easier from the tabs at the top. I'm really blown away with how cohesive everything looks, and the fact that you are writing 12 stories makes your project "out of this world".

  11. Hi Jennifer! I am very impressed with how easy you made it to navigate through your page and find the different themes and topics. Also, you were very thorough to add the 3 different signs and each of those stories had their constellation and the story that is associated with it. I absolutely loved that part because I liked looking for my own! The stories were presented in a very informational way. I really appreciated that, and I think if you wanted to expand (which you've already done a ton!) you could add stories that are more fictional and expand on the readings and history that you've done. If you put some imagined personalities and events behind their stories it would be a really fun way to make the stories pop out to readers and put some personal touches onto it!!! Overall, your page is awesome and seems pretty finished to me. Congratulations!

  12. Hi Jennifer! Wow! I was blown away by how detailed and complex your Storybook pages are! It is clear that you've spent a long time developing this project, and it really shines through! Especially the images and the graphics--they were so visually appealing, and made me interested to read your story right away. I'm not too familiar with the world of astrology, so the background information you provided on your Introduction page was quite helpful for me. By including the breakdown of all the astrology signs, it make your page relevant to your readers as well--I immediately went to the page of my own sign, Virgo, to see what it was about! One thing that I didn't understand at first was why some of the stories were featured on the main element pages, while others weren't. For example, I didn't see why Taurus was on the Earth page, but not Virgo or Capricorn. I think it's just because it comes first? I'm not sure if there's an easy fix to make your reasoning on the page layout more obvious, but fortunately I didn't get too lost!

    1. Hello! I'm glad you liked my storybook! I included the first stories on the element page so there was an astrology story included for the turning in portions. I wasn't going to include it initially, but I thought it would be too much/confusing for readers to click through all the pages. I hope that makes sense lol

  13. Hi Jennifer!

When I saw the name of your storybook pop up I was so excited! I love Zodiac signs and all of the mythology that goes along with that! (I'm an Aries, happy Aries season hehe). I often read my friends charts even though I am not the best at it haha. I love the layout of your front page of your site. It makes it so easy to navigate! I like how in your introduction you explain what zodiac signs are and how the stories will coincide with different greek mythology and other mythology. Let me just say that your storybook is BEAUTIFUL. It is so well done! I can't believe that you have a different section for each sign! How in the WORLD did you have time for all of that! Each story was so detailed, and each illustration was wonderful. The aesthetics behind each of the images went together so well and the fact that you have a color scheme for each type is so smart. I don't even know what I would say about your stories, I have nothing bad at all. I sent this storybook to my friends not even in this class so they could read their sign's stories. WoW!

  14. Hello Jennifer!
First of all, I really like the images on the homepage for each group of signs, they give a really nice feel to the overall page. I knew about the sun and moon signs as well as the signs for each planet, but I didn't know about ascendant and qualities. You learn something new everyday! Most astrology that I hear of nowadays is the posts on Tumblr and those videos on TikTok, so it's nice to see something more in depth. All your pages are beautifully laid out! It looks like a website someone would get paid for, with the eye-catching images and interesting information and stories. I liked your fire signs page the most (not just because I myself am a fire sign). I recently learned about the story of how the Golden Fleece actually came to be, and it is always fun to learn more. While I knew about the story of the Golden Fleece, I didn't realize that the golden ram had become a constellation.

  15. Hello Jennifer!
I think your page is wonderful! You put so much thought into your design. It's very easy to navigate through and fun as well. I have always been interested in astrology but have not studied the subject in depth. Looking up at the stars in the nights sky is one of my favorite things to do. Unfortunately, there is too much extra light around me to really enjoy it. I am a fire sign, so that is where I started first. Your story of Aries was so fun to read. I think it is great that you have an explanation before the story begins. From reading your author's note, it seem like you took some time to do a lot of research for your story, you did a great job on retelling the story! I am excited to read the rest of your stories.

  16. Hi Jennifer! I just looked/read your story book! I am quite intrigued by it. The design is so nice and really eye catching. It is also easy to navigate which I am a fan of. I like that you chose astrology as your story book topic. I tried to get into astrology a while back but it confused me. There are so many different things that you have to learn to really understand it all. I know that I am an Aquarius and that is about it lol. I am glad that you have a passion for it though because it really is a neat subject to get into! I also like that you give us an in depth explanation before the story starts. It helps the reader get engaged and make the story easier to read if they do not know much on the subject. I think you have done a great job so far. Keep it up and I look forward to viewing your story book again.

  17. Hi Jennifer!

This is my second time viewing your storybook. I bookmarked it earlier and when we got the option to visit a storybook we've seen before, I had to come check yours out!

The last time I saw your storybook, there was just an introduction. I must say, I love the additions you have made to it! Including the constellations with a description for each sign as well as a story for most of them is so cool! Very ambitious and creates a lot of work for you but I think it turned out really nicely, plus it's easy to navigate!

The focus for project feedback this week is paragraphing, so the remainder of my comment will focus on that.

Reading through your stories I found that you skipped lines almost after every sentence or two, specifically the Aries story. I think this gives more of a double spaced effect and makes it a bit difficult to to follow. If you grouped some of your current paragraphs together and were a bit more conservative with when you skip new lines, I think this would be extremely helpful to the reader when following along with your stories. This wasn't as much of an issue for me when reading the some of the other stories. The main ones that I had trouble with were Aries and Sagittarius.

  18. Hi Jennifer!
I came back to your Storybook because I thought it would be amazing and it was! I am a Taurus, so I skipped ahead and read that one first! Your stories are brilliant! I like that you give a brief look into the history of the constellation, and then you give the story of the myth most associated with the sign you are writing about. Your illustrations that you chose are absolutely stunning. I also like how you divided everything into water, earth, fire, and air signs, and then you added the signs under their category. It gave everything an organized feel, and made it easy to go with the flow of the stories. I noticed on the Aquarius sign, there is no story to go with it. Have you just not written it yet? My favorite is the Taurus story (although I may be slightly biased), and I also like the Aries story. Great job overall, Jennifer!

    1. Hi Cady! I'm glad you enjoyed my story book! I really liked writing Taurus because my little brother is one. I have three stories left to write for this: Capricorn, Aquiarius, and Pisces. I'm hoping to finish them this week, but we'll see what happens!

  20. Hi Jennifer! You set up a really good premise with your storybook, and I enjoyed reading through the various signs! I liked how you were able to create dropdown menus and have hyperlinks to the various signs based on section. I haven't been able to create a proper table of contents that you can click on and link to another page, so it was nice to see what else was possible with Google sites. The stories for the fire sign was very nice especially considering you only had summaries to base your writing off of. Your author's note for Leo seemed to be missing. I'm not sure whether that was intentional or not, but something to make note of a fix! Overall, every story written and posted seems to be carefully crafted and articulated, and definitely puts the quality of this blog at a high bar. There are just a few minor things to fix here and there but the content is solid.

  21. Hi Jennifer!
I read your introduction and your Scorpio story, as I am a Scorpio. I was really excited about this, I know Scorpios always get a bad rep so I was hoping that we weren't too bad in your story. The navigation of your site is excellent and very clear for the reader, I am so impressed! You've clearly put a lot of work into your site. The use of pictures throughout the Scorpio story helped break up the paragraph and in my opinion, made it easier to read because it's not just straight words but rather there is something to look at. The story was great! There's a lot of names to remember which can be a little confusing, but that isn't your fault. I noticed there wasn't an author's note. I would suggest adding one to clarify to the reader what this says about Scorpio. Good job overall!

  22. Hi Jennifer! I really liked your portfolio! I know that I am an Aquarius, but before reading your story about the different signs I never really knew what that meant. I decided to read through all of the signs and figure out what my family members are too! My mom is a Cancer, my dad a Libra, and my brother a Leo. Your stories were so fun to read about, and I like the style and structure of your project. It was very easy access and being able to click on the definitions while reading was also very helpful. I did not know what some of those terms meant until I looked them up. Great job on your project Jennifer, and it has been so nice getting to know you and reading your stories this semester! I wish you the best of luck in all your adventures in the future!
